Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

Overview

This permanent visa allows you to live, work and study in Australia if you are a skilled worker.

You must be nominated by a State or Territory. Each State or Territory has its own requirements for deciding who they will nominate.

This is a Points-based, invitation-only visa. You must reach a minimum Points score before being invited to apply.

This is a permanent visa.
You can travel to and from Australia multiple times.
You can work in Australia whilst on this visa.
You can bring family members to Australia.
You may be eligible for a Bridging Visa to remain in Australia while waiting for this visa to be processed.

Limitations and Important Things to Know

You must be under 45 to be invited to apply.
You must meet a minimum Points Test score to be eligible to apply.
You must have a valid Skills Assessment for an eligible occupation.
Depending on your country of citizenship, you may have to meet minimum English requirements.

Process

This is a Points Tested visa, and you must be invited before you can make the visa application. There is a 4-step process to follow:

Assess your skills and qualifications to work out your Points score.
Lodge an Expression of Interest to be placed in the pool of candidates. You should select a State or Territory to nominate you at this stage.
Depending on the State or Territory, you may need to lodge a Registration of Interest and be invited to apply for the nomination by the State or Territory. Generally, the most suitable and highest scoring candidates are invited first.
Successful candidates for who receive a State or Territory nomination will receive an invitation to apply for the visa. Visa applications must be made within 60 days of receiving this invitation.
